Following the accident to an Airbus A320, registered SU-GCC, off the Egyptian coast, the Egyptian civil aviation authorities have informed the BEA of the initiation of a safety Investigation.

The aeroplane, operated by Egyptair, was flying the Paris (France) – Cairo (Egypt) route as flight MS804.

The Airbus A320 had taken off from Paris-Charles de Gaulle airport on Wednesday 18 May 2016 at around 23 h.

In accordance with international provisions the BEA, representing the State of Design of the aeroplane, is participating in the investigation.

A team of three BEA investigators, accompanied by a technical advisor from Airbus is travelling to Egypt in the next few hours.

The BEA will be able to advise the Egyptian authorities on the organisation of underwater sea-search operations with a view to locating the aeroplane and the flight recorders.
